Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In a tragic incident in Kancharapara, West Bengal, a 26-year-old laborer named Suraj Chaudhary died after allegedly being beaten by a group of 30 to 40 people over a theft accusation. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about labor safety and rights at construction sites.
Suraj Chaudhary was engaged in construction work on a residential building, doing chipping work as part of the project. Last night, he was called to the site by Ashish Roy, the flat contractor overseeing the work. Allegedly, Suraj was accused of stealing a “tooni,” a construction tool. This accusation led to an act of violence, where the promoter’s group subjected him to severe physical assault.
According to Suraj's uncle, Kanai Kayot, the attackers’ assault was brutal, leaving Suraj critically injured. He was unable to survive the injuries, and his uncle has since accused the promoter and his associates of killing him over the alleged theft.
Police from Jethiya Police Station responded swiftly to the report, and authorities have so far arrested 20 individuals connected to the case. The arrested individuals are being questioned, and the police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of death, as well as the motives behind the assault.
